Received this email- and thought would respond in a post:
‘I live in one of the most beautiful areas of PA, Wellsboro… (Tioga County)… I have always felt passionately about green burials before i even knew they existed… However this area does not offer any such services. I am 36 years old with health problems and very hesitant about making arrangements because of my dislike for the way things are done around here, however I would never wish to be elsewhere. My question is: How would I go about raising awareness about this in my community and why is this not more popular? Is it the laws that are holding it back? Any info would be appreciated, thank-you…’
Response;
For laws and more information I would contact Green Burials first who is trying to create public awareness about green burials. In New England- try NE Green Burial Society (Quincy, MA)
As far as what is holding people back- probably they don’t know about green burials, Green burials really got started about 1993 or they may want a big mausoleum, or want to be buried with their family in a non-green cemetery or even using a funeral parlour that does not provide ‘green burials.
Who knows why, but that doesn’t have to stop you- call Green Burials and see what they say and then start from there.
Good Luck to you.

Hello,
I am a repoter for the Wellsboro Gazette in Wellsboro, Pa. I am interested in following up on the above e-mail in regards to the lack of eco friendly burial services. Could you possibly provide me with the e-mail of the person who contacted you? It would greatly appreciated and would help spread with word about green burials! My e-mail is kstemcosky@tiogapublishing.com. Thank you!
