April of 2020 has been in total shut down for the month. Today was the first day people were allowed on the beach and I was able to get out and beach clean two times. In the morning and 4 hours later with a friend. You can see the difference. No bottles, no towels, no lighter fluid, no toys.
What a difference between April 27, 2019 and and an empty beach of April 27 of 2020. I usually beach clean pre-dawn to rescue as much as possible. All the below would have been thrown into the trashcans and ended up in the landfill or washed out to sea. Nothing would have been recycled including the bottles.
1 mile of beach.
April 27.2020, Total of 1011+ pieces of plastic. 590 pieces in the morning. Most of the plastic was clear film, broken pieces of junk food wrappers and of course balloons
The tide was coming in and after the Beach Screeners had raked the sand. Two beach cleaners for an hour. Only one of these buckets were included in the total count
The food wrappers are all washing up, that is how much plastic is in our ocean. Every 100 feet along the tide line is a piece of plastic. Also telling the polluting effects of uncaring tourists on our beaches.
