The end of the beach trash run at South Mission Beach Jetty. To be fair, most of the glass liquor bottles were laying outside the trash cans. I did pick them up, while cleaning up the trash cans.
The big excitement was when I rescued a lime scooter from the tide. All of a sudden, lights start flashing… Police… OM.. scared me to death.
Officially my beach trash living started April 1 and I did go out. What a mess. First Belmont Park does their little PLASTIC Easter Egg Hunt, thousands of those suckers were spread everywhere. Those plastic easter eggs never go away. They will continue to wash up on the beach forever. I do not know if they were ECO EGGS or not, but whatever they were, they were filled with foil covered candies which was all over the place today and the plastic straw grass. It was awful!
Then the trash cans were overflowing. If they do not get picked up the seagulls get to them at first light around 6 am and then is really a mess. It is like you have to pick the trash up 2x. The ‘City Cleaners’ don’t show up until 6-6:30 and the first place they have to hit is the bathrooms. I will not even go in those bathrooms, it can take them an hour, then they drive around and pick up the trash (hopefully) change the trashcan bags and if they have time, they might drive around and pick up some trash in the parking lot. I say this, because I have watched them drive by broken glass and food wrappers. To really clean Belmont Park on a holiday or weekend, it is a good 4-5 hours.
Due to the Holiday this is the trash count for April 1 and 2nd. April 2nd, I only picked up at Belmont Park and a little at the Jetty. A total of 793 pieces. 668 pieces were at Belmont Park. I am also trying (keeping fingers crossed) to sort by location.
No doubt this was about 1/10th of the trash. Despite the fact that cigarettes are one of the most toxic items, it is hard to pick up with my gloves and I miss much on the beach at Belmont Park. Usually start at dark and don’t see them.
