March was a tough month, I moved and discovered 3 leaks in my ceiling, a search for handyman that would show up and I lost 5 days of data in March meaning it did not load and I did not go out 13 days. All was not lost, found $7.00 cash, 1 Camelbak water bottle, 1 like new Colombia Fleece jacket (I needed), 1 BBQ, 2 beach chairs (not broken) a pair of like new Chaco sandals (I love) 10 pairs of shoes (donated) 7 other shoes, 27 towels, 4 sheets/ blankets (humane society), 18 pair of pants, 21 tee-shirts, 15 jackets-sweatshirts, 5 pair of underwear, 2 purses, 25 socks, sunscreen (3 bottles) 2 lighter fluids, 11 Gallons of water, 3 unopened beers (I drank) 1 stroller which I put in the alley.
Total Income:
Recycling: $45.98 – $3.00 in tips . Total of $152.21 pounds
Beach Trash Sale: $36.00
Spent (Laundry) $40.00
Net income: $38.98.
Learned:
- I am not going to make it at this rate!! That is one tank of gas.
- Stop giving away the recycling bottles. I know quite a few of the pickers and it is hard to not give away those that are without a home and this is their primary source of income.
- Pick up more stuff that doesn’t have to be washed.
- Do what the smart pickers do, pick up metal only, as that is where the money is. But I cannot let all the rest go into a landfill.
Total Beach Trash Count for the month of March: 7035 Items: This is without 5 days of lost data, 1 day of over 600 items for America’s clean up day and 13 days in which I did not pick up any beach trash and other miscellaneous trash. Let me recap this: 20 days= 7035 items. This is covering less than a mile of beach, Belmont Park area including the parking lot. This is less than half a month .
I can’t even image what the figures would be if I had the other days. Double the amount of trash.

Umbrella covers from broken umbrellas make great patio chair, barbecue, bike and outside furniture covers.

Have you considered just contacting the hotels involved and seeing if they will pay to collect their towels? It must be cheaper for them to do that than buy replacements. And then you do not have to pay to wash them. Hope that works! You deserve a break for sure.

I would not know which Marriott or Hilton or Omni which are the best towels. The Bahia I will contact as the summer arrives. Would rather recycle them to the hotel than wash them. Thanks for the feedback, good idea. Will do so and see what type of response.

Several years ago I did take them apart and use. Haven’t found too many yet… waiting for the season to really start. Thanks for the reminder to do so.
