If you don’t have the time to go shopping, or your local Farmers’ Market is not at a convenient time you do have another alternative to support your local Farmers, buy local and in many cases get organic food.
After research, I found out about CSA: Community Supported Agriculture- which “is a relatively new socio-economic model of food production, sales, and distribution aimed at both increasing the quality of food and the quality of care given to the land, plants and animals – while substantially reducing potential food losses and financial risks for the producers. A CSA consists of a community of individuals who pledge support to a farm operation so that the farmland becomes, either legally or spiritually, the community’s farm, with the growers and consumers providing mutual support and sharing the risks and benefits of food production. CSA’s focus is usually on a system of weekly delivery or pick-up of vegetables, sometimes also flowers, fruits, herbs and even milk or meat products in some cases. A variety of similar production and economic sub-systems are in use worldwide:”
If you go on the website and plug in your zip you can get a directory of farms that deliver products in your area. How great is that!
