Louisana is known for having one of the worst litter situations in the United States. With a population of 4,684 Million, it is one of the highest taxpayer cost of litter in United States. Between Hurricanes, Oil Spills, water quality issues, off shore drilling, and fracking, Louisana’s litter problems probably not the biggest priority.

2017 $40 Million is spent on litter abatement by municipalities, parishes and state agencies.
2016- $7.9 Million the Department of Transportation and Development released a graphic detailing its efforts to combat roadside trash across Louisiana. To pick up about 56,000 cubic yards of litter, the DOTD spends about $7.6 million. This price tag includes: mowing and litter contracts, mowing and litter agreements, sheriff’s department agreements, Department of Corrections, and in-house costs.
Fracking also is another pollutant and Louisana has more that 2200 fracking wells.
2016, Louisiana had 17,128 producing crude oil wells and 20,099 producing natural gas wells according to the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources. As of May 2017, hydraulic fracturing in Louisiana occurred primarily in the Haynesville and the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale formations. However, Louisiana did not track the number of oil and gas wells that were hydraulically fractured as of May 2017df
2012: In Louisiana, seventeen cows died after an hour’s exposure to spilled fracking fluid. (Most likely cause of death: respiratory failure.

- 2017:Over 200 volunteers picked up over two tons of trash, enough to fill a 30-yard dumpster, at Elmer’s Island last month as a part of International Coastal Cleanup Day.
- 2017: Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation’s 343 volunteers hauled in 3,961 pounds of garbage, and organizers are hoping to make it at least an even two tons this year.
- Louisiana waterways among most polluted in nation, report says; Louisiana’s waterways are among the most polluted in the nation, with industrial facilities releasing more than 12.6 million pounds of toxic chemicals into rivers, bayous and other waters in 2012, according to a report released Thursday (June 19) by the Environment America Research and Policy Center.
