Many years ago, I was so pissed off at all the Extreme Sports, sport fitness trainers and Yoga being done on the beach. They leave behind trash. I would hope if you are using the beach FOR FREE and making money, you would ask your participants to pick up a few pieces of litter as they leave. Instead, they leave behind plastic water bottles, plastic yoga mats and plastic sports paraphernalia, socks, shoes, footballs, volleyballs, baseballs, golf balls, tennis balls and more.
For many years, I thought, why not make beach-litter clean ups as part of your exercise routine? Do Good and Feel Good… Guess what.. .it started and it is called Plogging. Starting in Sweden is is now spread to the United States. Plogging is basically jogging and plastic pick up. I will tell you, one of the reasons I started picking up trash was for excercise and one can work up a big sweat, believe me.
On an average trash day, I do 11,000- 12000 steps and bend over at least 500 times. Walking in sand, pulling a wagon is hopefully building small muscles and eliminating my big butt! There are hundreds of joggers on the beach everyday and why they do not pick up litter, I do not know, but maybe if this catches on we will have cleaner beaches!
Kudos to Sweden!!!
