Hawaii has a huge waste problem, little land, no landfills to speak of and excess waste has to be transported off the islands. The Hawaiian Independent is fighting Illegal Dumping by posting maps of Dump Sites in various neighborhoods. This particular map is of the neighborhood in Moiliili in Oahu. In this small neighborhood there are 17 Illegal Dump Sites.
The link for the Map is http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&t=h&msa=0&msid=208822530917884299547.00049cfd0c00b5cd91adb&ll=21.28995,-157.823873&spn=0.002689,0.0026&source=embed. You can click on the spots and see what is dumped.

Hawaii, on the Island of oahu produces so much garbage. Recycling to them is put it in the recycling bin. Drive to the dump. I was told the garbage is shipped on huge barges to the mainland
You hardly ever see people bringing their own shopping bags to any store. Even in the few health food stores bringing your own bag is seldom seen. Also there sure is a lot of big trucks and SUV here for a little island. The less populated beaches after the weekend have fishing line, a soda pop can, etc..
