Illegal dumping is a huge issue with cities, counties and states. It not only ruins aesthetic values, it poisons our water and animals. Even if you aren’t a tree-hugging person, it costs huge amounts of taxpayer monies.
I ran across this excellent interactive map from Washington which shows illegal dump sites on Washington State Trust Lands in 2010.
- 49 abandoned Vehicles
- 32 Commercial / Hazardous
- 113 Household
This doesn’t count city, county and state illegal dumping and the cost of cleaning up. Take into consideration, meth labs, abandoned buildings, tires, refrigerators….
For example $400,000 is the taxpayer cost of illegal dumping in Olympia, $500,000 taxpayer monies in cleaning illegal dumping in Ft. Lewis
