April continues to be a challenging month as to ‘living off beach trash’. It seems every week there is some kind of expenditure that is not in the beach budget.. This week is was flat tires. $211.00. Again, I lost data, April 8, 9 and 14th wish there was a pause button. I also did not go out April 10 or the 13. The results for a total of 5 days =2453 pieces of trash or 490.6 pieces of trash a day… Just think we are just getting started.. summer is not even here yet.
There were two appalling things: Belmont Park’s use of Balloons for the race on April 14. Seriously, with beach cities banning balloons at the beach right and left, one would hope that San Diego, would be a leader.. and Belmont Park stepping up to the plate.. No, not only did they have balloons.. they had plastic cups of water… The ‘Event’ Man told me that they are working in it????? That was a stupid thing to say… If they were truly working on, they would have had paper cups. This was right after the PLASTIC Easter Egg Hunt, of which I am still picking up the pieces
The other appalling thing was the Dirty Diapers not getting picked up at Belmont Park especially in the parking lot. I left this little pile on Friday and watched the Park and Rec guy completely pass over it. After double checking on Sunday, this pile was still there. To be fair, if these Parking Lot Cleaners do not get to the parking lots by 6:30 am, it is almost too late. Construction workers start arriving around 6-6:30 am, surfers start around 6:30 am and the rest of the joggers and visitors start at 7 am. The Parking lot is about half full by 11.00 a.m.
Glass Bottles continue to be a problem on the beach and parking lot.
Several ‘Finds’ like new Cooler. The 2nd Cooler Find of the Year.
All in all, my little wagon is too small to pick up everything. I am not back to tide to towel lines and only about 100 pieces in the Belmont Park parking lot. The south mission beach jetty, may as well write off. Am loaded down and have run out of bags to pick up trash. It is a sad story, I just wish that some of the surfers and volleyball players would pick up a few pieces of trash on their way out.
