    I am looking for a buyer for a large quantity and selection of reclaimed, original growth Douglas Fir, dated 500 to 1000 years old from the Pacific Northwest. Attached is an initial description.

    Raw wood dimensions are 2 X 6, 2 X 4, some 2 X 10 or 3 X 12, 4 X 4, 6 X 6 to 8 X 8 plus beams of 11 or 12″ X 12 to 14″. Previously the 2″ wood was saw split, planed, cut tongue and grove and sanded for excellent quality flooring or other cuts for building interior and exterior doors. The beams can provide creative structural architecture features and support..

    There is over 100,000 board feet on hand. It has been checked for metal and is in good shape. It can be delivered from Northern Colorado or inspected on site. I plan to be on site this Friday at 8AM. Let me know if interested.

    PRODUCT SHEET – RECLAIMED DOUGLAS FIR

    Product: Reclaimed original growth Douglas fir wood.

    Age/Origin: Has been carbon dated at 500 to 1000 years old. The University of Arizona tree ring laboratory has identified origin as the Pacific Northwest, which was supported by mill stamps in beams.

    Original Structure: Wood was reclaimed from wooden grain elevators in Ault, Windsor, and Johnstown, Colorado. The Ault elevator was built in the 1890’s, the other two structures were built in the early 1900’s. These structures including interior grain bins were made entirely of wood and contained hundreds of thousands of board feet of lumber. The elevators were torn down carefully to minimize waste, and metal detectors were used to find and remove nails and other fasteners.

    Dimensions of lumber: Interior grain bins were constructed from 2×6” or 2×4” lumber. Beams and larger dimensional lumber were used to support foundation and upper structure. Beams range from 5×7 to 11×11 and are in lengths of 9’ to 20’. There is assorted dimensional lumber of 2-3”x10’-12”.

    End Uses: Lumber has been milled to produce flooring, doors, trim, staircases, furniture and other items. The 2×6 material is processed into a 4 ¾” wide tongue and groove plank for flooring, and 2×4 material is milled to a 3” tongue and groove floor plank. Beams can be used for decorative and/or support beams or milled into doors, flooring, trim or furniture uses. Doors and trim can be customized to any size or style by Vintage Wood Products craftsmen.

    Characteristics: Because of its slow growth origin, wood has high density and tight growth rings. While it originated in the Pacific Northwest, it has been in the Colorado climate for decades and has 5-6% moisture. The acclimation to our climate has made this lumber very stable and not subject to shrinkage, which can be a major problem with new lumber in the Colorado climate. Minerals from nails have leached into wood, giving it dark spots around nail holes. Nail holes and knots give the wood character, and finishing accentuates the grain of the wood.

    Finishing: Wood finishes very nicely with stain or clear coat with either water or oil based finish. The majority of the finished product to date has been clear coated, which brings out the natural character of the wood. For flooring, we recommend sanding after laying floor to smooth surface and using a commercial finish to coat and protect the surface.

  5. Do you have any recommendations for Products: Sealer and/or Protective Coat for my new reclaimed fir floor. Do you have any information on instructions for finishing off the floor. I’m not interested in a drum sanding, more of a gentle sanding to retain the old look. Holly

  9. I have seen companies in the East where they provide demolition services for kitchens and bathrooms and they salvage the fixtures and cabinets for resale. Does anyone know of a company like that here in Colorado Springs, we are planning to demo our master bath in January and have a 12.5 ft. vanity with double sinks, a bathtub, a toilet, light fixtures, medicine cabinets, etc. to donate for expert demolition services.

  23. I have a log cabin for sale and removal. D-shape logs with tongue and groove. Size is approximately 29 x 38. The cabin has living, kitchen, 2 bedrooms, and bath. Interior walls are traditional construction so it could easily be reconfigured. Logs are painted and in excellent shape.

    I live in Steamboat Springs, and recently pulled up an old floor, with 100 year old wood. There are pieces from 3 feet long to 12, maybe 15 feet long. I don’t know what kind of wood it is, but there is ALOT of it, and I hate to see good wood like this that can be recalled and built into something cool, go into a dumpster.
