Reviewing the last three years of beach cleans for May 1, 2018 and 2019 it doesn’t look much different. In fact I picked about the same amount plastic pieces in May of 2020 than in May of 2018. There could be several reasons for it, most likely was focussed on the big stuff in previous years as they take up alot of room and sometimes it is a space issue. And I consistently lost (and still do) data.
May 1, 2018 Feature was a wooden stool found in a fire pit, lots of toys and of course bottles.
May 1, 2019 featured items were beach chairs, hunks of styrofoam, bottles and liquor packaging.
May 1, 2020. The beaches were opened on April 27, 2020 for walking, running, some water sports. No sunbathing, sand-sports, picnics or gatherings. San Diego mostly adhered to the restrictions, but..
You can already see the impact of visitors to the beach or the lack of consideration for picking up after themselves. Of the 7 Beverage Cans found. .all were beer laying on the sand. 2 of the 7 Plastic bottles were the single serving liquor and the glass bottle was beer.
The Short term vacation rentals are filling up per the beach-vine. It will be interesting to see the results over the weekend.
