In a previous post I had written about New York wanting to start a program on recycling cigarette butts. but fortunately there is a clothing designer who is taking those cigarette butts off the street and recycling them into fashionable clothing!

Alexandra Guerrero, a Chilean fashion designer and her design house Project Mantis has come up with a way to use up those butts and create clothing.

Terming this tiny trash “one of the most ubiquitous forms of garbage in the world,” the study describes discovery of a way to reuse the remains of cigarettes to prevent steel corrosion that costs oil producers millions of dollars annually.
Could Cigarette Butts Be Recycled Into Home Insulation– A London community is studying an innovative technology which may allow for the recycling of discarded cigarette butts into home insulation. The community estimates an average of 4,000 cigarette butts are dropped in the town center daily, then collected during routine street cleanings and sent to the landfill.
Environmentalists Has Idea For Recycling Cigarette Butts– Baffico envisions collecting those discards at frequent buyback events and then using them to make products such as filling for gymnastic mats or even material for clothing, he said. So far, the plan has received about $1,500 in in-kind and monetary support.

My first time to hear about recycled cigarrete butts,but its not bad at all maybe it doesnt encouraged people to smoke and smoke so that more cigar butts can be recycled but also it brings awareness to the public about littering.
This cigarette art is great. I would like to see more uses for these.
