According to Vote Industrial Hemp, Hemp can be used in over 50,000 ways. Food, Feed, Body Care, Oil, Fuel, Cars, Paper, Clothes, Ropes, Soap, Shoes and even Homes are being made out of Hemp. Contrary to popular belief, cannibis is only one form of Hemp. Being able to plant INDUSTRIAL Hemp, would save water, eliminate toxic chemicals, save energy and help us become a greener planet. Industrial Hemp is only legal in the following states: California, Colorado, Kentucky, Maine, Montana, North Dakota, Oregon, Vermont and West Virginia.
A new way to use Hemp, will be in the creation of eyewear. In 2012, Marius Temming eyewear design included Hemp , using hemp, kenaf, wood veneer and flax, combined with a non-toxic bio based resin, These are definitely some low carbon footprint sunglasses. They were unveiled at Berlin’s DMY design festival, although, we have yet to find if they are available on the market yet.
But the latest news is Sam Whittens, Hemp Eyewear, due to be released in 2015. The Hemp Shades are made with a composite of hemp and flax fibre. Produced in sheets and coated with an eco-friendly binder and cut out.
You can’t smoke these, nor would you want to. The use of Hemp, made in the USA, small business, make these one of the most eco friendly sunglasses that you can wear.
