The lone environmental detective with the Travis County Sheriff’s Department got some high tech help Thursday afternoon to fight the growing problem of illegal dumping countywide.
KVUE caught up with Detective Sidney Parker while he was installing the last of three remote controlled cameras in the area of Williamson and Graef roads, near Creedmor in southeast Travis County.
“No matter how many times it’s cleaned up, it persists, and as you can see we have everything from household waste, diapers, mattresses, all the way to animal carcass,” said Parker.
He told KVUE that it cost Travis County taxpayers at least $1 million a year to clean up illegal dumping. He also said that the growing phenomenon is popping up in all corners of the county.
