Taxpayer Cost Of Litter: Sioux City, Iowa: $85,000/ Year

index.php — www.iwla.org- At the 7th Annual Missouri River Cleanup in Yankton, South Dakota, 100 volunteers collected more than 2.6 tons of trash and scrap metal. In Sioux City, Iowa, 80 volunteers collected 2.4 tons of litter and debris. And 30 volunteers collected nearly 3.5 tons of trash along the river in the Pierre-Fort Pierre, South Dakota, area, including a three-piece sectional couch, 10 tires, a bus seat, and a water heater that had to be lifted out of the river with a winch.

Sioux City says it’s on track to spend more than $80,000 this year on litter removal and clean up. Since January 1st, the city has spent 1$1,000 on litter clean up. Full Story

That might now seem alot, but the population of Sioux City is about 82,794 in 2009 According to City Data. There were 33,425 housing units, of which 31,571 were occupied. Which pretty much means that each household pays over $2,000/ year in taxpayer dollars to pick up unnecessary litter.
