We have all done it, thrown in our trash, something that could have been donated or recycled. It happens, but this was a waste! The $1.7 Million dollar duplex behind me was just sold. In cleaning out, the new owners decided to trash everything.
Full 12 piece place settings from Ikea, (approx $200) place setting from Bed, Bath and Beyond ($369.00 online) and other assorted dishes, including wine glasses, soda glasses, and about 20 other assorted china. Unfortunately most were broken. This trash can was so heavy, that the sanitation guys would not even have picked it up.
SweetnLow, Sugar, Tea Bags, Salt and Pepper and assorted spices were thrown away.
These pillows were like new!
I understand that you would not want someone else’s food… how many homeless shelters do we have in San Diego?
Fortunately I caught them, as they were throwing away plastic shelving and a sweeper. After nicely introducing myself, I told them, I will take anything to the Community Resource Center which helps battered women and homeless. Apparently they did not know, they want these. I nicely explained that if you are a battered woman and you are running, most of the time you leave with the clothes on your back and you have nothing. It is not hard to donate? Within 4 miles of their old house and the new… let me count how many Thrift Shops.. Goodwill, Cerebral Palsy, San Diego Rescue, American Cancer Society, Veterans, Salvation Army, Amvets and guess what… they all pick up!!!! There is no excuse for this.
After I spoke with them, they did unload reusable stuff in my driveway for me to take to recycle.
#1 A plastic bottle, which should have gone in the recycling bin that was 6 feet away. #2) A ceiling fan that is in better condition than my ceiling fans (Habitat For Humanity #3) A few other fixtures (not pictured) that also could have gone to Habitat. #4.) Bedding, in good condition, that just needed to be washed and donated .
This is the epitome of our disposable society. While I understand time pressure of moving and this is a new neighborhood, but please people if something is in good stead, there are all sorts of donation options .
